I recently attended The Master Investor Show at The Design Centre in Islington, North London. This is my annual pilgrimage to listen to my guru Jim Mellon speak. I have read a number of Jim’s books and listened to him speak quite a few times too.
Jim has an uncanny ability to spot early new money trends which he calls money fountains. Amongst his many achievements was the writing of a book called Wake UP! Survive and Prosper in the Coming Economic Turmoil which was published in November 2015. The global financial crisis then ensued in 2017/18.
Jim has been so successful with his predictions that he has become a billionaire. So, listening to him speak at the latest Master Investor Show was illuminating to say the least.
He believes that the great bull market of the last 10 years is well and truly over. He considers that inflation is going to return because of the cumulative effect of quantitative easing which is now being slowed down. In order of preference, he would invest in gold and silver and all things connected with precious metals, then Japanese equities, selective UK stocks and then Indian shares. He would then short so called “darling” stocks which are clearly overvalued especially FANGs, Tesla shares and most bonds.
Jim believes you should focus on investing in mega trends and not focus on the negative news and politics. He discussed so called Clean Meat and his forecast that we will eventually live in a Meat Free society as the current cost of producing meat is unsustainable for the planet. The future is in lab produced meat. He also discussed the future of transport explaining that ride-sharing and micro-mobility companies are not very profitable. Driverless transport has far higher margins.
Fortunately, our very own CCM Intelligent Wealth Fund already invests in mega trends including Jim’s favourite one – longevity. It also has a thematic investing approach.
